Finding a good massage in Barcelona comes down to three things: matching the style to what your body actually needs, checking who does the work and how long they have done it, and booking somewhere calm where the time is genuinely yours. I am Julien, and I have spent 11 years practising here in Barcelona, with over 16 years of experience in all, including my earlier years in France. Here is how I would choose, whether you book with me or with someone else.
What makes a massage the best is the right fit for you

There is no single best massage, only the best one for what you need on the day. The first choice to make is pressure.
If you carry tension in your back, shoulders or legs, or you train hard, you will want strong, intensive work. Deep tissue and sports massage both reach deep into the muscle, and traditional Thai massage is vigorous and active, with stretching and firm pressure that leaves you feeling worked rather than sleepy.
If you are after calm and a slower pace, a relaxation massage, a California massage or an Ayurvedic massage will suit you better. These stay gentler and focus on unwinding.
Deciding which of the two you are after before you book saves you from arriving with the wrong expectation. If you are not sure, that is fine, a good massage professional will ask and adjust to you.
Who actually does the work matters most

This is the part people skip, and it is the one I would check first. Ask who will actually be in the room with you. What you want is one person who does every session themselves, so the pressure and the pace stay consistent each time you come back. With me, every massage is mine alone, from start to finish.
Experience is worth asking about too, in specifics rather than slogans. I trained in France first and have practised for over 16 years in total, 11 of them here in Barcelona, and I hold a traditional Thai certification from TMC Chiang Mai. Where someone trained and how long they have worked tells you far more than a general claim of years.
What a strong massage should feel like
A common worry, especially with deep tissue, is whether it will hurt. Strong work is firm and you will feel it, but it should stay manageable the whole way through. The pressure works with your body rather than against it, and the tension eases as the session goes on. If anything is too much you say so and I adjust, and that back and forth is part of the work.
Afterwards you should feel worked and looser rather than sore. A strong massage is closer to a workout than a nap, and that is exactly the point.
One small thing makes the session better: arrive fresh and ready to settle straight onto the table. If you have come from the beach or the gym, a quick rinse beforehand means you can relax the moment you arrive.
What a full body massage includes

A full body massage works through the back, shoulders, arms, legs, neck and, if you like, the head, all in one session. It is a good choice when tension is spread around rather than sitting in one spot, or when you simply want to switch off completely for a while.
How much time each area gets depends on you. In a longer session there is room to spend more time where you hold the most tension, so it helps to tell me your priorities at the start of the session. If you would rather concentrate on one or two areas, a personalised session does exactly that.
How booking should work
Look for somewhere you can book online and see real availability, so the time you choose is genuinely open. I take every appointment through my online calendar on Acuity, which shows exactly which slots are free, so you pick what works for you and the time is held for you alone.
Sessions with me run for 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes, and each one is individual and complete in itself. If you and your partner both want a massage you are very welcome, and you book two separate full length sessions back to back, so each of you gets a complete session with me personally. The calendar shows the back to back slots that are free.
What it costs, and what you are paying for
Price is worth understanding before you book. With me you are paying for one experienced person’s full attention for your whole session, from the first minute to the last, with nothing shared and no one rushing you out. That is what a single, complete session gives you.
Rates depend on the length and the type of session, and you can see the current prices on the booking page when you choose your slot. I would rather you picked the session that fits what your body needs than the lowest number on a list. The difference in how you feel afterwards is worth it.
Frequently asked questions
Does a deep tissue massage hurt?
Strong pressure is firm and you will feel it, but it should stay manageable throughout. I work with your body, easing tension as we go, and I adjust the moment anything is too much. You should leave feeling worked and looser, not sore.
What does a full body massage include?
A full body massage works through the back, shoulders, arms, legs, neck and, if you like, the head, all in one session. In a longer booking there is more room to spend extra time wherever you hold the most tension.
How much does a massage in Barcelona cost?
It depends on the length and type of session. You can see my current rates on the booking page when you choose a slot, so you always know the price before you confirm.
Where should I get a massage in Barcelona?
I practise in the Eixample, in the centre of Barcelona, which is easy to reach from most of the city. You receive exact arrival instructions with your booking confirmation.
Can my partner and I book together?
Each session is individual and indivisible. Couples are welcome and book two separate, full length sessions back to back, so both of you receive a complete experience with me personally. The live calendar shows the available back to back slots.
Ready when you are
The best massage in Barcelona is the one that fits your body, done by someone who gives you their full attention. If that is what you are after, have a look at my calendar and pick a time that suits you. I will take it from there.
